Butterfly Id. and Ecology Course, Knarsdale.
Yesterday Hilary and I attended a Butterfly Ecology course organised by the North Pennines AONB in the lovely South Tyne valley at Knarsdale.
After an introduction and the usual health and safety briefing (butterflies can be nasty little critters! ) and disregarded advice to apply suncream? we set off for a short walk. Surprisingly it poured with rain and we fled to the shelter of the nearest bridge.
Lunch was spoiled only by the prospect of venturing back out under a blackening sky, however the sun came out and we were amply rewarded with beautiful views
Orchids,
and beasts of the realm!
Eventually we found our butterfly prey. Well it was really a moth but what the hell, we had a good day!
Though at one point Hilary did seem to be having a bit of trouble finding her way home!
